Note: The Rector of St Wilfrid's, the Reverend Gill Henwood, has an alto voice and therefore found it difficult to intone the Gloria of Dom Gregory Murray's New People's Mass and to sing many of the hymns at their customary pitches. Klaus, occasional organist at St Wilfrid's, surprised her by playing the Mass in C instead of in D, and by playing the hymns two or three half-tone steps lower than customary.
The following e-mail exchange resulted.

Dear Gill,
Thank you for the kind words you addressed to 'the gallery' at the end of the service today. I only heard the word 'the gallery' but could not pick up WHAT you were saying, but somebody else told me afterwards.
I hope you were able to join in with the SINGING of the hymns today. I played them all two or three half-tone steps lower than in the printed books. I hope that made it easier for your voice. Nobody in the congregation complained.
With best wishes,
Yours sincerely,
Klaus

Dear Klaus,
I very much enjoyed your playing yesterday and was delighted you can come to us.
I wondered why I could sing - you have found the answer! The congregation sang so much better too (very obvious from weak singing the previous week).
Whilst sorry you can't be with us on 2 Aug at Stydd, we look forward to you coming to us again.
Warmest greetings,
GillGill Henwood
